Kate Valentine is a performing artist and theatre director.  She studied Dance at New York University.

As a director she has come to specialize in collaborating with performers on developing their original works.  These artists include Julie Atlas Muz, Ed Hamell (winning the Herald Award at the Edinburgh Festival 2007), and the World Famous *BOB* among others.  Her first effort as a feature filmmaker, Rant and Roll, was completed in spring 2008.

Her full-length devised work, The Hive, was first presented in 2012.  This multimedia production uses video dance and acrobatics to retell the story of Euripides’ Trojan Women.  In Valentine’s version Queen Hecuba is a queen bee mourning the loss of her workers to the ravages of Colony Collapse.

As an actress Ms. Valentine is best known for my character-based comedy performances in the downtown NY scene, particularly the hilariously severe Austrian Mistress of Ceremonies character, Miss Astrid.

As a producer, she is the creator of the seminal burlesque show The Va Va Voom Room 1997-2005 as well its emcee, Miss Astrid. Besides having the first bicoastal burlesque show ever (running weekly in NYC and San Francisco), Miss Astrid and The Va Va Voom Room have performed all over Europe and the US including the annual productions of The New York Burlesque Festival and the Burlesque Hall of Fame in Las Vegas.

In addition to teaching theatre classes in the Performance Studies Department at N.Y.U., Ms. Valentine has taught in Italy, the U.K., Finland and Sweden.
